Frequently asked questions

What is this site?

WardrobeDilemma is an ideal forum for you to get or give opinions regarding your or other people's sartorial choices. When someone is having a 'wardrobe dilemma', they can upload pictures to this site and ask questions of others to help them figure out what to wear.

Why would I want to use this site?

There are several reasons why you may want to use this site:

Show us what you were wearing today and let others rate your look. Perhaps you are debating whether to buy that investment item that could make or break your wardrobe. Stick a photo of it on here and let others help you choose wisely.

Maybe you thought your outfit looked great and fantastically stylish today. Put a picture up and see if everyone else agrees with you!

It's your birthday/best friend's wedding/ex's engagement and you need to choose an outfit that makes a statement, but your flatmate/other half/mother isn't very good at telling you if you're making the right one. Cut them out of the loop and ask the rest of the world instead! Get a range of opinions for you to heed or ignore at your own convenience. This is part of the reason that this site was created - I am no good at answering these questions, and can now direct my girlfriend here!

For aspiring designers, this is a chance for you to showcase your stuff in a friendly environment and get feedback from people who have a genuine passion for fashion.

You might even just have bought a great new bag and need to show it off to people who appreciate it.

Do I have to register to use this site?

No, you can view people's uploaded photographs and vote on their 'wardrobe dilemmas' without being a registered user on the site. We will set a cookie on your computer that enables us to track which dilemmas you have voted on. However, if you want to be able to fully use the site, you will need to create an account. Account holders can upload their own dilemmas and are allowed to comment on other users' dilemmas too.

What are the different dilemma types?

To give you some flexibility in how you share your wardrobe dilemma, you need to decide what 'type' of dilemma you are having when you upload your picture(s). There are three different dilemma types:

Simple dilemma: a simple dilemma is one that requires a 'yes' or 'no' answer from people. With a simple dilemma, you are limited to uploading one picture and you need to phrase your dilemma question so that it can be answered with a 'yes' or 'no' response. A good example might involve you uploading a picture of an outfit, and asking the question, "Should I wear this outfit to a job interview?".

Choice dilemma: a choice dilemma allows you to upload 2 to 4 pictures and ask others to help you choose between the items. As an example for this type of dilemma, you might upload 2 pictures of 2 different dresses and ask people to pick their favourite one.

Match dilemma: quite similar to a choice dilemma, a match dilemma enables you to upload several pictures. The difference here is that one of your items is a 'match item' that you want to use to match against some others. The match item cannot be voted for. For example, you might want help deciding which pair of shoes go best with your favourite jeans - upload a photo of the jeans as your match item, then upload 2 or 3 pictures of the shoes and ask which pair go best with the jeans.

Open dilemma: this is quite different to the other dilemma types, in that no votes are cast, only comments can be submitted. An open dilemma takes the form of an open-ended question for which you are looking for detailed answers. For example, you might just want to know where people buy their jewellery from. You can still upload an image if you like, but it is optional and you only need to do it if it helps provide information about your question. Building on the previous example, you might want to ask where people get jewellery like this bracelet from, and upload a photo of the bracelet in question.

Why have some votes disappeared from my dilemma?

At some point, someone must have voted while logged in, then logged out and voted again. This would have allowed them to vote twice on your dilemma. After doing this, they must have then logged back in, at which point the site login routine will have spotted their double vote and removed one of them.

I've spent all day voting on the site and now I want to create an account. Am I going to lose track of all the votes I've cast?

No you won't. When you first visit the site, a temporary account is created for you. We use this account to track the votes that you cast. If you then decide to register on the site, all the votes you have made as an anonymous user are linked to your account. The temporary accounts are also attached to a cookie, so if you visit the site on several separate occasions before registering, we can still link your votes to you!

I (don't) want to know when a dilemma is voted on or commented on.

You can 'subscribe' to any dilemma on the site if you are interested in seeing how it progresses. You will be emailed whenever one of your subscribed dilemmas is voted on, or if someone makes a comment on it. Whenever you create a dilemma of your own, you will be automatically subscribed to it (obviously, you want to know when people offer opinions). If you want to subscribe to a dilemma that someone else has submitted, then just click on the 'subscribe' link on the dilemma page, at the top. Alternatively, just cast a vote or submit a comment, and you will be subscribed.

You can also unsubscribe from any dilemma at any time by going to your subscriptions page via your profile (http://wardrobedilemma.com/users/subscriptions), following the link that is shown at the bottom of the email message you receive or clicking on the 'unsubscribe' link shown at the top of a dilemma page.

Somebody has put up a dilemma that is offensive, pornographic, using copyrighted images, etc.

If you find evidence of someone abusing the site in this way, please use the link on the appropriate dilemma page to report this abuse. We need you to describe why you are reporting the dilemma as abusive, whether it be because the picture and/or description is offensive or if a copyrighted image has been used without permission. We will receive an email when you submit your complaint and will review the material.

I think I've found a bug on your site!

Please include any error messages you see, the approximate time the error happened and as much detail as possible about what you were doing when the problem occurred.
